Constants

Bible Reading: Psalm 51:1-15

When David wrote Psalm 51, he was a broken man. He had sinned against Bathsheba, against her husband, Uriah, and against God. Throughout this psalm, David pours his heart out to God, asking for forgiveness, restoration, and a steadfast heart. David understood that by committing sexual sin

with Bathsheba and murdering Uriah David had failed to remain steadfast in his faith in God. In other words, David was unable to live in constant obedience to God.

Therefore, David wrote Psalm 51 as a prayer to God. In verse 10 David prayed, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” David wanted to start anew. He wanted God to help him become steadfast – constant in his faith, in his life, and in his walk with God.

Life is filled with uncertainties. There are many things and situations that change, that are unpredictable, that aren’t solid or constant.

However, God never changes and God’s ways never change. God always loves us. His offer of salvation and eternal life never expires. Freedom from sin, perfect rest, unity with Jesus Christ, and peace that passes understanding are always available to those who accept Jesus and follow Him.

Life is uncertain. Ask Jesus into your life. Let Him become the one constant in your life.

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” 1 Peter 5:10

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the constant of know that You, the unchanging God, are always with me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
