A Way of Life

Bible Reading: Hebrews 13:15 & 16

Have you ever thought about what “worship” really is?

Today’s Bible reading says, “Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of

praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Offering “a sacrifice of praise” and living a holy life is what true worship is all about.

Without holiness, our worship is empty, hollow, and doesn’t please God. We can sing to him, but singing (if we're not living the words we sing) is not acceptable worship. We can attend church, but sitting in a worship service or Sunday school (if we aren't living what we hear) is not acceptable worship. We can do charitable deeds or random acts of kindness, but (if these things aren’t done with a loving and pure heart and attitude) are not acceptable forms of worship. The only worship that truly honors and exalts God is the worship offered by living a holy life, a life of following Christ’s example of day by day, moment by moment obedience to God.

In other words, worship can’t be a Sunday morning activity. True worship must be a way of life.

I challenge you to evaluate your way of worship. Ask yourself, am I trying worship God just on Sundays or is worshiping God my way of life?

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire.’” Hebrews 12:28 & 29

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to make worship a way of life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
