Bible Reading: Exodus 3
In Exodus 3 we read of God’s appearing to Moses in the burning bush. God had seen the suffering and struggle of the Israelites and chosen to send Moses to rescue them telling Moses in Exodus 3:10, “So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”
Why did God choose Moses? Why not Aaron, Moses’ brother or Miriam, Moses’ sister? Why didn’t God choose one of the leaders of one of the tribes of Israel? Why did God choose Moses, a man raised in Pharaoh’s house then rejected by his own people and sent into exile?
God knew Moses was the right person for the job.
Moses was prepared. All that Moses had experienced had humbled him. Moses was emptied of his self-sufficiency and ready to rely on God and God’s plan. Moses was at the point in his life where he understood that he was nothing without God and that God was all he needed.
Moses had a wilderness time similar to Jesus' and Paul's. During this time, Moses had time to think, to pray, to better understand God, to learn patience, how to make decisions, and how to lead.
Moses had a vision. He was confident that God wanted His people to be rescued. Moses recognized that God had a plan and a purpose both for Moses, himself, and for the people of Israel.
Moses had strength, not physical prowess brought about by personal physical training, but spiritual strength, a strength provided by God. He was willing to rely on God and use God’s strength to accomplish God’s goal of freeing His people from slavery in Egypt.
God has a purpose and a plan for you, just as He had for Moses. “Why me?” you ask? God knows you are the right person for the job. Humble yourself before God. Don’t be afraid. He will prepare you. He will be with you. He will be your strength, your confidence, your vision, and your sufficiency, because all you need really need to fulfill your God-given calling is God, Himself.
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Philippine 4:13
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being all I need. In Jesus' name. Amen.
