Reflect Jesus

Bible Reading: 1 John 2:1-6

Reflections are amazing things! Look in a mirror and you will see a detailed, accurate reflection of your own face. Mirrors aren’t the only things that reflect. Reflections can be seen in metal objects, plain glass, and even bodies of water like lakes, rivers, and streams.

When you look at a reflection, you aren’t looking at the mirror or lake or stream. You are looking at the image of the object or person reflected. That image is an exact likeness of the object or person reflected. When a person looks into a mirror, the mirror shows that person exactly as he or she is.

1 John 2:6 says, “Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.” In other words, we are to be mirrors that reflect Jesus for others to see.

How do we reflect Jesus?

Follow Jesus’ example:

* Jesus allowed the Holy Spirit to direct His every thought, every word, and every action. All of those thoughts, words, and actions were filled with mercy and forgiveness and saturated with love.

* Jesus trusted God completely. He never doubted that God had His best interest at heart.

* Jesus kept Himself pure. He spent time with people on God’s terms, not the world’s terms. He knew when to interact with people and when to separate from them so He would remain close to the Father.

* Jesus immersed Himself in God’s word. He didn’t try to fight the devil and the devil’s temptations on His own.

* Jesus spent time alone with God. He knew the immeasurable value of prayer.

* Jesus never quit. He never gave up. He always kept in mind God’s plan and purpose for His life. Jesus’ goal was God’s goal.

Are you accurately reflecting Jesus to the world around you? What step do you need to take to make your reflection of Jesus clearer?

“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be a clear, accurate reflection of Jesus for those around me to see. In Jesus' name. Amen.
