God Calls

Bible Reading: Jeremiah 21:8-10

The Israelites had stopped following God’s will. As a result, God allowed the Babylonians to attack and besiege Jerusalem. God called the Israelites out of the city to live. Jeremiah 21:9 God warned the Israelites saying, “Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague. But whoever goes out and surrenders to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live; he will escape with his life.” They had to give up their place of manmade security (city walls) and go out to the enemy. They had to risk everything & trust God. The question for the Israelites became, “Will we trust God enough to answer His call and obediently leave the city?”

Salvation is like that. God calls us to give up our own desires and plans. He calls us to abandon our self-security and risk everything. God calls us to willingly give up our lives in exchange for the eternal salvation of our souls. For us, the question becomes, “Will we trust God enough to answer His call and accept His offer of forgiveness and eternal salvation for our souls?”

How will you answer that question?

“…and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10:38 & 39

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be willing to give up the false security of the world and to obediently answer Your call to salvation. In Jesus' name. Amen.
