Like Mary

Bible Reading: John 20:11-18

Verse 18 of today's Bible reading says, "Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: 'I have seen the Lord!' And she told them that he had said these things to her."

Mary was the first person to see Jesus after His resurrection. Jesus had specially chosen Mary for this job.

Imagine how different our lives would be if Mary had not obeyed Jesus' command to tell the disciples that He was alive.

If Mary hadn't delivered Jesus' message to the disciples, they would never have seen Him (Matthew 28:16-20). Peter would not have been given the responsibility of establishing the church (John 21:15-19). The 3,000 people who believed in Jesus at Pentecost would never have heard about Jesus (Acts 2:41). The gospel would never have spread around the world. We would never have had the opportunity to receive salvation and eternal life.

All of these things and much, much more hinged on Mary's obedience to Jesus' command.

Jesus has given us a similar command in Mark 16:15, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation."

Imagine what can happen if we, like Mary, willingly and eagerly obey Jesus' command and tell people about Jesus!

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19 & 20

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to obey Your command and tell people about Jesus, just like Mary. In Jesus' name. Amen.
