Heartbreak

Bible Reading: Genesis 6:1-7

Some things are easier to break than others. Glass is fragile. Crystal breaks even more easily. Diamonds are very hard to break. Chalk crumbles between the fingers with only a small amount of pressure.

There is something that breaks even more easily than chalk -- the heart.

Many things cause our hearts to break: unfaithful people, deceitful people, loss of special possessions.

Thankfully, we don’t have to endure heartbreak by ourselves. God is with us and He has given us friends and family to encourage us and help us through.

We humans aren’t alone in our ability to experience heartbreak. Verse 6 of today’s Bible reading says, “The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.” Adam and Eve’s disobedience broke God’s heart. Our sin, our rebellion, our rejection of God’s love, and our refusal to accept Jesus’ offered salvation and the Holy Spirit’s comfort, guidance, and wisdom also break God’s heart.

I want to encourage you to evaluate your life. Be sure that you aren’t doing anything that will break God’s heart.

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to always please You in all I do and say. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
