Entangled

Bible Reading: Galatians 5:1

When I was a kid, my brother, sister, and I often went fishing with my dad. Well, my brother & sister fished. I sat in the boat and read a book.

One thing that really annoyed my dad was when the fishing line got all tangled up. When that would happen, usually because my brother and sister got their lines wrapped around each other, dad would have to cut the lines. The tangled line couldn’t be saved. When fishing line becomes tangled, it it almost impossible to untie. Even if you manage to untie it, it will be kinked and bent. It will never again flow smoothly out of the reel.

Sin does that same thing to our lives. When we get tangled in any kind of sin, our lives become a mess. It can be really hard, sometimes impossible to separate the sin from our lives.

It is best if we avoid becoming entangled in sin in the first place. If we don’t get involved with sin, it can’t hurt us.

Sadly, that doesn’t always happen. We all, at one time or another, make decisions that cause us to become entangled in sin.

Thankfully, when that happens, God has made a way to save us from sin’s entanglement and “cut” the sin from our lives. Jesus died on the cross so that, if we confess our sins to God and ask for forgiveness, those sins can be cut from our lives.

I hope you will follow Paul’s advice in Galatians 5:1 which says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” I hope you will accept Jesus’ forgiveness and allow Him to free you from the sin in which you are entangled.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1

Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me. Help me to avoid becoming entangled in sin in the future. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
