A Handy Reminder

Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:17

It is useful and fun to keep a prayer journal. A prayer journal is a great way to track your prayers and God’s answers. It is both encouraging and strengthening. It helps to build consistency, patience, and persistence in your prayer life. It is a great reminder to “pray continually” as today’s Bible verse teaches.

However, there are times when a prayer journal or even a printed prayer list may not be available yet you may want to pray in an organized deliberate way. For those times, God has given us a prayer tool that is always with us. What is this tool?

A hand. Yes, a hand. How, you wonder, is my hand a prayer tool? You can use each finger on your hand to represent a specific group of people to pray for. The pinky represents yourself. The ring finger represents the weak, the sick, and the persecuted. The middle finger represents leaders in business, government, and industry. The pointer finger represents teachers, pastors, missionaries, and other church leaders. The thumb represents family and friends.

Commit this “handy” prayer list to memory. Then anytime you are away from your prayer journal or printed prayer list, you will have a “handy” list to use to guide your prayer time.

“But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.” Jude 20

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me such a “handy” prayer tool. Help me to use it often. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
