Head Faith & Heart Faith

Bible Reading: James 2:19 & Romans 10:9 & 10

There are two kinds of faith. The first is “head faith.” Many people believe that God is real. They know in their mind that God exists, but they have never done anything to make God’s existence a reality in their own lives. That is head faith -- knowing God is real, but doing nothing about it. James 2:19 tells us that even Satan and his demons have head faith – “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder.”

The second kind of faith is “heart faith.” Romans 10:10 says, “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Heart faith goes beyond knowing in our heads that God exists. It is heart faith which makes it possible for Christ to save us. Heart faith happens when we accept Christ’s sacrifice as a fact that is pertinent to our individual lives. We admit that we have sinned and failed to live God’s way. Then we willingly give up our self and all self-interests and begin to do things that please God.

Which kind of faith do you have – head faith or heart faith?

“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I believe in Jesus and His sacrifice in my heart, not just in my head. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
