Bible Reading: Philippians 4; 1 Timothy 6:8
A lot has been said about Attention Deficit Disorder in recent years. ADD is a medical condition that makes it difficult for those with the condition to remain still and focus.
Many people in the world suffer from a disorder I call “Contentment Deficit Disorder.” How can you know if you have CDD? The symptoms of CDD are....
* Not being happy with your belongings.
* Not enjoying your work.
* Feeling dissatisfied with your appearance.
* Wanting more things.
* Wishing you were someone else.
* Wanting things that belong to another person.
Spiritually healthy Christians shouldn’t suffer from CDD. Instead, we should live like Paul who wrote in Philippians 4:11, “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” We should be satisfied with who God created us to be and the things God has chosen to give us.
What should we do if we begin to experience CDD in our lives? The Apostle Paul has the cure for contentment deficit disorder.
First, take an inventory of the good things God has placed in your life then take time to thank God for those blessings.
Second, make a list of all the people in your life that care about you, then tell God, and those people, how glad you are to have them in your life.
Finally, keep your eyes and mind focused on Jesus. Jesus is our greatest blessing. When we are focused on Jesus and living out His plan and purpose for our lives, CDD can’t take over our lives.
I pray that you will be like Paul, avoid catching CDD, and learn to be content, whatever the circumstance, so that you can truly enjoy the wonderful blessings God has given to you!
“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.” 1 Timothy 6:6-8
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be content and enjoy the blessings that You’ve given to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
