Prove It

Bible Reading: James 2:18-26 (NLT)

Imagine that you come to me and say, "I'm hungry." How do you prove that you are hungry? You eat food!

Eating a meal or a snack is proof that we are hungry. Our outward action of eating proves that hunger pangs exist inside our bodies.

Faith and good deeds work together in the same way. That is what James was trying to explain in verse 18 of today's Bible reading: "Now someone may argue, 'Some people have faith; others have good deeds.' But I say, 'How can you show me your faith if you don't have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.'"

Let me explain that verse.

Our belief in Jesus, our faith that He died to save us from sin and make a way for us to be forgiven and have eternal life are things we experience in our hearts and minds and souls. People can't see those things.

The good things we do for people are outward proof of the faith that exists in our hearts, minds, and souls.

What are you doing to prove that you have faith in Jesus to those around you?

"Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works." James 2:26 (NLT)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to prove my faith in Jesus doing good to and for the people around me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
