After Dark Attacks

Gayle J. Thorn

Bible Reading: James 4:7

Today's Bible verse says, "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." It is never easy to resist the devil and his temptations. He is very good at finding our weaknesses and exploiting them.

It can be even more difficult to resist the devil at night.

When it is dark and we are tired, we become especially vulnerable to the devil's temptations. In the dark, at the end of the day, our bodies and minds are weaker. We have less strength with which to stand and hold our ground when the devil sends doubts, fears, and temptations to attack us.

Therefore, we need to prepare for Satan's after dark attacks.

How?

First, meditate on scripture earlier in the day. Reading, memorizing, and thinking about God's words helps to build our endurance.

Second, keep your mind focused on God. We can't think about God and His truth and think about the devil and his lies at the same time.

Finally, get some rest. Remind yourself not to make decisions when you are tired. If you make your decisions when you are well-rested, you will be better able to recognize the lies and temptations Satan and avoid falling into his traps.

"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to prove my faith in Jesus doing good to and for the people around me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
