Bible Reading: Isaiah 43:1-3
In verse 1of today's Bible reading, God told the Israelites, "Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine." The Israelites faced terrible dangers, life-threatening dangers, but God promised to always be with them and to protect them.
Our world is filled with dangers. Some dangers aren't much more than inconveniences: We can cut ourselves on a sharp knife, break an arm or leg in a fall, or become ill from tainted food.
Other dangers put us in extreme peril. Flooding, tornadoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and volcanic eruptions are all life-threatening. We have little or no control over these things. We can do little or nothing to protect ourselves from these dangers because their power is far beyond our power.
However, there is One who can control these things. There is One who can protect us from extreme peril. Who is that One? God.
If we allow God to be a part of our lives, He will always be with us. He will be our security. We won't be overwhelmed by the threat these perils pose. God has promised to protect us, just as He promised to protect the Israelite people.
"When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you."
Isaiah 43:2
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for promising to be with me, no matter what difficulties or dangers I face. In Jesus' name. Amen.
