Call It What It Is - Sin

Bible Reading: Romans 6:1-23

Mistake. Error. Goof. Oopsy.

We have many words that we use when we've done something wrong. These words are fine, if we've dropped and broken a drinking glass or taken a wrong turn on the road.

However, these words don't work when we've done something that violates one of God's laws such as lie, cheat, steal, envy, or say mean or unkind words. God doesn't call these things mistakes or goofs. God calls them sin.

God tells us through Paul in verse 12 of today's Bible reading, "Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires." We need to be honest when we do something that breaks God's laws. We need to agree with God about what we've done. We need to call sin, sin.

Then, we need to ask God to forgive us. We need to take steps to prevent the same sin from happening again in our lives. That first step is to give God control over our lives.

I hope you will put sin behind you, beginning today, and begin to live day by day, moment by moment to please God.

"Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness."

Romans 6:13

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I agree with You. When I do something that is wrong, it is sin. Forgive me. Help me to do better. In Jesus' name. Amen.
