Little Bird

Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 10:20

There is an old expression that people use when they reveal that they know something they have no logical reason for knowing and probably shouldn't know. It says, "A little bird told me."

Often, the things "little birds" tell are tidbits of gossip. They are bits and pieces of things about other people, things we shouldn't be passing along to other people. Things that should be forgotten or left unsaid. In today's Bible reading, wise King Solomon warned us about those "little birds" saying, "Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird of the air may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say."

If you are tempted to say anything that could have the saying, "A little bird told me," attached to it...stop! Think, really think – should I say this?

The answer is probably, "No," so don't say it! Guard all your words carefully. You don't want your words – or that "little bird" – to get you into trouble!

"May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to always guard my words so that everything I say will be pleasing to You. In Jesus' name. Amen."
