Bible Reading: 1 Peter 3:1, 2
In today's Bible reading the Apostle Peter wrote, " Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives." Peter wanted wives to know that their behaving in ways that demonstrate love and respect for their husbands and build up their husbands' esteem is an excellent way to try to encourage these men to accept Christ. By seeing Christ's genuine love and respect lived out daily through their wives, these men may come to desire to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. Wives may be able to witness of Christ's love and salvation without saying a word.
This "wordless witness" isn't limited to husbands and wives. We can all be witnesses to those around us without saying a word. Here are a few tips for being a wordless witness:
1. React other peoples' bad or thoughtless behavior with the patience and kindness
they don't deserve.
2. Smile at everyone you meet.
3. Treat everyone fairly and honestly.
4. Offer help, to the best of your ability, to everyone who needs it.
5. Look for ways to get involved in serving people at church and other public
service arenas.
6. Be salt – do little, unexpected acts of kindness that add flavor to life.
7. Be light – show the way to Jesus by allowing your life to glow/beam with joy,
peace, patience, kindness, etc.
8. Be good seed – share with others in ways that encourage them to follow your
example so they will share will even more people. Follow Christ's example and
others may follow you.
9. Be ambassadors – warm, welcoming, inviting, caring, etc.
10. Forgive, forgive, forgive!
"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be a wordless witness by actively living as Jesus lived. In Jesus' name. Amen.
