Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:12, 13
Imagine you are swimming in the ocean and someone shouts, "Shark!" What would you do? Swim to the shore as fast as you could swim!
That is exactly how we should react to temptation.
Temptation is dangerous. It can devour us and ruin our lives. The Bible is full of people who experienced temptation. Some, like Adam and Eve, Cain, and Jonah, gave in to temptation. Others, like Abraham, Job, and Stephen, resisted temptation.
In today's Bible reading, Paul warns, "So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!" (verse 12) It's not enough to simply try to hold our ground when temptation comes our way. We must flee from it. We must get away from whatever is tempting us as fast as we can. Just as if we were swimming away from a shark, we must flee for our lives when temptation approaches.
What is the best way to flee from temptation?
Pray! – then run, don't walk, away from whatever is tempting you.
"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." Matthew 26:41
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to flee all temptation as if I were swimming away from a shark. In Jesus' name. Amen.
