Bible Reading: Luke 7:36-50
In today's Bible reading we read about Jesus visiting the home of a Pharisee named Simon for dinner.
When Jesus arrived, Simon neglected to kiss Jesus' cheeks in greeting, as a good host should have done. He also forgot to provide Jesus with water to wash His feet, as was the custom of that day. Simon forgot – or chose not – to provide oil to anoint Jesus when He entered. simply put – Simon was rude!
How do you feel when other people treat you rudely, are insensitive to you and your needs, or take you for granted?
I feel unloved. I feel as if people don't care about me or that they don't want me around.
I think Jesus may have felt those same feelings. Jesus may have felt take for granted and used. He may have felt that the only reason Simon had invited Him for dinner was so Simon could be entertained or so Simon could go out and brag saying, "Jesus ate at my house!"
Why do I think Jesus may have felt unloved, used, and taken for granted? Hebrews 2:17 says, "For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way..." That means that Jesus experienced everything we experience.
Please, don't take Jesus for granted! Don't use Him just to try to get the things you want. Don't hurt Jesus' feelings or break His heart by rudely forgetting to spend time with Him every day by inviting Him to go with you all throughout your day.
Jesus loves you! He wants to be with you. Please, give Jesus the respect and attention He deserves.
"Then he [Jesus] turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet." Luke 7:44-46
Prayer: Heavenly Father, remind me to always treat Jesus with love and respect. Help me to never be rude to Him nor take Him for granted.
