Bible Reading: Jeremiah 3:14 & 15
In today's Bible reading, God promises to give us leaders He calls "shepherds," What a wonderful gift!
God could have given us a dictator to force us into compliance.
God could have given us con-men to use guile to deceive us into obedience.
God could have given us a motivational speaker to tell us that it doesn't matter what we do or how we do it, as long as we do what we want we'll be successful.
God could have given us leaders like those, but He didn't.
God gave us shepherds.
Shepherds lead. Shepherds guide. Shepherds are gentle. Shepherds love each and every sheep in their flocks. Shepherds don't force or coerce or deceive. Shepherds create a safe place where sheep can live and eat and rest.
In John 10:14 Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me." Jesus is the perfect Shepherd. He is the Shepherd that our shepherd-leaders are to emulate. They are to be human representations of Jesus, The Good Shepherd.
"Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding." Jeremiah 3:15
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the shepherd-leaders that you've given us. Help them to lead us well. In Jesus' name. Amen.
