Aliens

Bible Reading: Exodus 2:11-22

Moses had been raised in Egypt. Everything he knew about the world was based on what he had seen and heard in that country. Egypt was his home.

That all changed when Moses was about 40 years old.

One day, Moses found an Egyptian man abusing a Hebrew man. Moses killed the Egyptian in an attempt to protect the Hebrew. As a result, he was forced to flee Egypt. Moses ended up in the land of Midian where he became a shepherd, married and had a son. He named this son, "Gershom." The name Gershom sounds like the Hebrew word for alien. Alien means stranger, a person from another place, a person not accustomed to the lifestyle of the place where he is currently staying.

Moses said he chose this name because, "I have become an alien in a foreign land" (verse 22). Moses was living in a country that wasn't his home. He wasn't completely comfortable in Midian.

Like Moses, we Christians are aliens in a foreign land. Earth isn't our home. It's a stopping-off place.

God intends for us to be put back into a right relationship with Him so we can go to the home He has prepared for us – heaven. Heaven is our real home. Heaven is where we are meant to be. Heaven is the only place where we will feel truly comfortable, truly happy, truly at peace, truly at home.

"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone." Ephesians 2:19 & 20

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for making a home for me in heaven. I look forward to someday leaving this world and coming home. In Jesus' name. Amen.
