"My"

Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 22:1-4

In 2 Samuel 22:2 David sings, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.” David used the word "my" nine times in verses two and three of today’s Bible reading. David speaks about God using the phrases, “my God,” “my rock,” “my fortress, “my deliverer,” “my shield,” “my salvation,” “my stronghold, “my refuge,” and “my savior.” These phrases – and the little word my – showed God’s relationship with David.

My may seem like a little word. It may seem to be insignificant. In reality, my says a lot. My in these verses means that God isn’t just God. God isn’t just a rock or a fortress or a refuge, etc. More than that, God isn't just a rock or a refuge or a deliverer for people in general. He’s not even those things just for Christians. God is each of these things for me. My shows that I possess these attributes of God. These things are gifts to me from God.

God is my God, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my shield, my salvation, my stronghold, my refuge, and my salvation! Mine!

Read today’s Bible reading again. This time, each time you come to the word my replace it with your name. Why? When you ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior He will become your God, your rock, your fortress, your deliverer,

“David sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul…[The Lord is] ‘my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior – from violent men you save me.’” 2 Samuel 22:1, 3

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being so many things for me and in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
