Bible Reading: Hebrews 12:1-2
Rain hinders us when we plan to go on a picnic. Holiday meals get in the way of our diet plans. Traffic jams – colds and flues – snow – many things get in our way.
There is one thing that we should never allow obstacles to hinder –living for God.
Today’s Bible reading says, “…, let us throw off everything that hinders and
the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
What does that phrase mean?
This verse means that we should not let anything keep us from diligently, joyfully living for God. We should work hard to be sure that nothing stops us from obeying God. We should not allow anything to get in the way of our service to God. We should never let anything keep us from being filled with the joy and contentment that God gives us.
"Everything”– worry, nervousness, fear, uncertainty, impatience, hobbies, work, sports, school, etc. “that hinders” – that keeps us from obeying God, living in joy, moving forward, acting confidently in our lives and for God should be limited or removed from our lives. Why?
So we can live victoriously! Jesus made it possible. The "faithful witnesses" give us confidence, courage, strength, and assurance by means of their example.
I hope you will remove “everything that hinders” from your life so you can live the wonderful, rich life that God created you to live.
"We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first." Hebrews 3:14
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to faithfully serve you and not let anything hinder the work You are doing in and through me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
