Walking & Living

Bible Reading: Isaiah 9:1-3

I'm not crazy about walking in the dark. I bump into things. I stub my toes. I trip over things.

It's much easier, much safer, and much more enjoyable to walk in the light where I can see the things around me and avoid hazards.

Spiritually speaking, that is what the prophet Isaiah is talking about in today's Bible reading – walking and living in the light.

Isaiah 9:2 says, "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." To walk means to move about freely. To live means to actively choose where to go and what to do being aware of oneself and one's environment.

All of us start out walking in the dark. That means we are all separated from God. We are all living selfish, mean, uncaring lives. None of us truly loves God nor wants to live God's way. We can't understand how God wants us to live. We can't see the path God has laid out for us to follow.

Then comes Jesus.

After we hear about Jesus and His sacrifice, and choose to ask for God's forgiveness, Jesus' Spirit enters our lives. When this happens, everything changes. We change. Light (Jesus) comes into our lives. We being living and walking in the light. That means that, for the first time, we being to truly understand where we are in relation to God. We begin to understand God, where He wants us to go, and how He wants us to get there.

I hope you have Jesus in your life and are walking and living in the light.

"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light." Ephesians 5:8

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to always live and walk in the light.. In Jesus' name. Amen. "cart" of your life have both of its wheels person doing them nor on the lives of those seeing or receiving them.
