Self-Check

Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 2:15

In today's Bible verse Paul Timothy to be concerned about Timothy's own actions, not the actions of other people.

This advice is for us, too. We are to evaluate only our own individual performance. We are to do a self-check to be sure we are fully obeying and following God's plan and commands for our own lives.

Yes, there are basic commands that apply to each and every one of us such as, "You shall have no other gods before me," (Exodus 20:3) and the 10 Commandments. However, we also have a wonderful freedom to be creative and unique in our service to God. God will often give me instructions that He does not give to you. He may also tell you to do things that He hasn't told me to do.

We are in God's presence at all times. We should live in a way that pleases God at all times. We should be behaving ways that never cause us or God to be ashamed. All our words and actions should demonstrate accurately the truths that we've learned from God's word. How we do this will be and should be unique because God created each of us to be unique. The way each of us serves and obeys God will be different from the way every other person serves and obeys God. Each of us should serve and obey God in the way that God tells us to serve and obey Him. We should never try to compare what God has told us to do with what God tells any other person to do.

I hope you do a self-check today. I also hope you are listening carefully for God's personal instructions to you.

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."

2 Timothy 2:15

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to know and carefully follow the special, unique path You have chosen for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
