Honesty Is the Best Policy

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: Psalm 7:8

“Honesty is the best policy.”

That cliché is so true, but why is being honest the best way to handle every situation that comes our way?

Psalm 7:8 gives us the primary reason for being honest in all of our dealings. This verse says, “Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity, O Most High.” God will judge our words as well as our actions. When that time comes, I hope we are all found to be pleasing in God’s eyes.

What are the benefits of being honest?

The honest person receives God’s delight (Proverbs 12:22). The honest person eceives God’s blessing (Psalm 24:5). The honest person receives the respect of other people (1 Thessalonians 4:11, 12). Honesty is rewarded by the Lord (Psalm 18:20). The person that has been honest will live with Lord (Psalm 15). That person will be able to know with certainty the direction of his or her life (Proverbs 11:5). The honest person will avoid doing evil (Proverbs 4:27). He or she will have inner peace (Psalm 14:30). The honest person will be filled with joy (Proverbs 21:15). He or she will attract people of quality at friends (Proverbs 22:11). The honest person will have his children blessed by God (Proverbs 20:7).

Living a life of honesty and integrity obviously provides many benefits. Even God benefits when we live honestly. God is glorified by our integrity.

Are you living a life of honesty and integrity?

“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:10-12

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to live a life of integrity. Help me to be honest in all things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
