Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 20:7
Our Bible reading says, “O our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?” In this verse Abraham is described as God’s friend. Friendships, whether they are with other people or with God, don’t just happen. If you want to become friends with someone, you need to take the first step toward making that happen. God gave us an example of how to jump-start a friendship through His friendship with Abraham. God didn’t wait for Abraham to notice Him, God took the first step - God called Abraham. After that initial contact, God kept in close touch with Abraham. He looked after Abraham’s best interests. He stood by Abraham in hard times. He kept His promise to Abraham; the promise to send a Savior - Jesus - into the world through Abraham’s descendants. Is there someone with whom you would like to start a friendship? Follow God’s example: * Start a conversation. * Spend time with that person. * Put that person’s interests ahead of your own. * Stand by that person through thick and thin. * Keep any promises you make to that person.
“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24
Prayer: Lord God, give me the courage to begin a new friendship today and the integrity to keep that friendship alive.
